Worship and the Core Values of New City
-
Sonship
In worship, we admit that we are sinners saved by Grace through faith
and
that our hope is in Jesus Christ alone. We rest in the security that
we are sons/daughters of our loving Heavenly Father and that this Gospel
of Grace is the very empowering we need for worship. -
Promises of God
In worship, we believe the promises of God together, particularly that the Holy Spirit indwells, gifts, fills, blesses and transforms our very lives into the image of Christ to be his servants in the world.
-
Boasting in Weakness and Trials
In worship, we recognize our weakness and utter dependence upon God. We desire that whatever varied range of abilities and gifts in singing and playing we bring to worship come from humble hearts. We desire that our gifts receive Holy Spirit anointing to lead people into the presence of God becoming once again centered in the Gospel of Grace. We want an atmosphere that is not performance oriented but is Spirit filled so that we can encounter God and all of his amazing truth.

Boasting in Weakness and Trials
In worship, we embrace and acknowledge that the various trials and humble circumstances God has and is taking us through become the very means he uses to advance his Kingdom purposes.

Reconciliation
In worship, we recognize and rejoice in the ethnic, economic, educational, social diversity of God's people reconciled under the blood of Jesus. Thus we embrace, appreciate and need the various people groups and forms of worship God brings to us as expressions of the fullness of the body of Christ.
-
Team Ministry
In worship, we function as a team. We minister together willing to, depend on Grace, pray for and submit to each other, accept flawed leadership, enter into conflict and rejoice in what God accomplishes in and through the team.
-
Gospel of the Kingdom - Justice and Mercy
In worship, we seek to edify each other in embracing anew God's Grace, not for our own benefit alone but that we will be sent out from worship as ministers of the gospel of the kingdom to our neighbors here and abroad seeking to be instruments of righteousness, compassion and love in a broken world.
-
Promises of God
In worship, this edification involves the freedom of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of God's people that enables them to be transformed into the image of Christ. The "freedom" of the Spirit's work in worship normally takes place through planning and structure that is yielded in humble dependence to the Spirit's Sovereign direction and guidance. The Biblically revealed structures that bring this freedom of the Spirit include preaching, singing, offerings, praying, the Lord's Supper, baptism, the reading of Scripture, shouting, clapping, lifting hands to God, dance, music and all other clearly revealed commands and examples related to worship in Scripture.
Worship:
- proceeds from our grace relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
- is centered in its direction on God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit
- compels us to go out from worship to serve God in love for Him and our neighbor
- is energized by the Holy Spirit and engages the whole person; soul/spirit and body
- celebrates God's character and His deeds, bringing joy to Him and spiritual health to us, changing us into the image of Christ.
Singing His Praises
The Lord Jesus has put together a team of His people at New City Fellowship to serve Him in leading worship through music. New City Fellowship of St. Louis is a member church of the Presbyterian Church in America and is committed to exalting the Lord Jesus Christ to bring about racial reconciliation and address the needs of our city through the power of the gospel.
God commands us to sing His praises and therefore gives to His Church the
people He's equipped to serve with musical
talent,
and to help draw people into worship. We have the privilege of bringing God
our joys and sorrows and seeing Him feed our hearts as we learn to worship
Him for what He has done and what He is doing.
How Could You Be Involved?
If God has equipped you with musical talent then we need you to come join the Music Ministry Team.
We have all levels of musical talent on the team. One of the great things that God is doing with us is that He takes all of us with our different styles and levels of talent and forms a TEAM! His team for this particular church. A team that learns how to worship God together and how to be used by God to serve the congregation in worship.
This ministry is open to anyone who has musical gifts. Our musicians lead in worship services, play for some events outside of NCF, and hold a monthly musicians' fellowship for anyone who wishes to attend. We also need musicians to lead music and play instruments in house churches.
Our goal is to worship God "in spirit and in truth."(John 4:24) Our goal is not to perform well or even be the most excellent praise and worship band. If you have a willingness to worship God with the talent that He gave you then please join us!
